Every year, criminals devise new ways to deceive bank customers. Most often, fraudsters operate via phone calls, posing as employees of a bank, law enforcement agency, or other organization. Their main goal is to obtain confidential card details or gain access to an account.

Here are five phrases that phone scammers use most often.

1. "A suspicious transaction has been detected on your card."
Scammers try to cause alarm and immediately draw the person into a conversation. Under the pretext of "protecting your funds," they may ask you to provide your bank card details or confirmation codes.

2. "Tell me the approximate balance of your account."
The perpetrators deliberately avoid naming an exact amount and instead ask you to provide a range. This helps them understand the maximum amount they can attempt to steal.

3. "A loan has been taken out in your name."
This phrase causes stress and an urgent desire to sort out the situation. During the conversation, scammers may try to get your card details or persuade you to perform certain actions.

4. "Read me the code from the SMS."
Confirmation codes are intended only for the cardholder. By giving them to third parties, you are effectively granting access to transactions on your account.

5. "Install this secure application."
Scammers may send links to install "protective" software. In reality, such applications allow attackers to gain access to your device, accounts, and personal data.

Remember:
Bank employees will never ask for your full card number, PIN, CVV code, or SMS confirmation codes over the phone.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the bank yourself using its official number.
